Baseball On My Brain

C.C. and the no-no

I wanted to hold off comments about C.C. Sabbathia’s “no-hitter in question” until MLB made their ruling, which they did.

Frankly, while I feel bad for the guy getting so close to a no-hitter and not getting it, I think the scorer made the right call. Those guys get their calls right probably more so than umpires thanks to the fact that they get to use instant replay before ruling, and have a day to change their decision if they feel it necessary.

Sometimes you only hit 5 of the 6 numbers in the lottery, sometimes you give up just one hit, and sometimes, when give up that one hit, it was you that didn’t make the play that resulted in the hit.

C.C. is a tremendous pitcher, and to give him a no-hitter would be a disservice to his ability. I bet he’ll earn one on his own merits and ability before his career is done. That one will be the one that matters, not the one the people think he should have gotten because a scorer did his job correctly.
