The idea of "keeping up with the times" is one that is such a false sense of compulsion. I can't help but think that baseball almost has an obligation not to keep up with the times; not to be part of the movement towards perfection.

Why is it so hard to accept imperfection? Have we raised the stakes so high that anything less than a perfect call by an umpire stands to ruin an individual? Or have we just made it that way in our minds? Have we made baseball and its role in our lives more important than it needs to be?

Totally agree. Sad to see America's favorite pastime change for the sake of "keeping up with the times"...human error is part of the game.

When blanket statements that are as ignorant as the ones above are thrown out, I won't entertain them with a response.

At least I know I won't be running into you at a ballgame.

MLB baseball players don't love America.
At least basketball players do by particpating in the olympics. All baseball players care is abotu money. Thats why basketball is a better sport. Baseball is also too boring to watch. I can
leave the room for several hours and the scroe is still 1 to 2. Its time to ban baseball and hockey.

"Basketball players don't take steroids."

But their officials bet on games.

MLB won't allow their players in the Olympics for a few reasons:

--It would lengthen their already long season by three weeks, and since baseball doesn't want the World Series going past Nov. 1, that would mean the season would start before St. Patrick's Day every four years. The Players Union would most likely object, because Spring Training would start in early February. If anything, they'd object simply because they don't like change.

--MLB has already devised their own international competition: the World Baseball Classic. They're probably glad that baseball is out of the Olympics because it directs the market for international competition to their product, thus putting more money in their bank account.

As far as the Olympics go — their was never an official reason given as to why it was voted out, but the consensus has to do with MLB players not being involved, as well as the American anti-doping standards not being as high as the IOC’s.
- You said it right there this is why baseball stinks. Basketball players don't take steroids. And a few actually still love their country America. Why didn't MLB players not play in the olympics?
